Farmers Market Open Today 10 am – 2 pm

Alice Dreger

It’s another beautiful day for East Lansing’s farmers market. Based on last week’s offerings, here’s what you can expect to find:

  • bok choy, kale, and salad greens
  • garlic scapes and kohlrabi (which are delicious fried up together in a pan)
  • cow and goat cheeses of many types: chevre, cheddar, gouda, mozzarella, and more
  • fresh Michigan fish (whitefish, lake trout, salmon), smoked fish, fish dips
  • fresh breads and breakfast pastries
  • eggs from local happy chickens, if chickens are capable of happiness
  • many types of cultivated mushrooms, including shitake and oyster
  • popsicles that will turn your tongue pretty colors
  • dried herbs and herb plants for your garden, as well as batched fresh herbs
  • hanging petunia baskets plus vegetable plants for your garden
  • local honey, local syrup, local cider, local jams
  • craft candles, bath bombs, lip balms, and hand creams
  • brunch and lunch that you can take home or eat in the park
  • locally-roasted coffee, available by the cup (including decaf), in bean form, or ground

The market monitors will only let you go through in one direction, starting near Valley Court Drive, so buy what you want as you pass it, or expect to start back at the front gate again.

Last week at 10 a.m., there was no wait to enter. By about 11 a.m. there was a line to get in, but it moved quickly. With about fifteen people on line, it took about ten minutes to be admitted. Expect to be asked to sign nominating petitions.

Don’t forget to bring your mask!
